Meet Dr. Cory Clark

I am a Child and Family Psychotherapist with a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education. I am also a real person, husband, and father. I’ve even experienced my own childhood trauma and challenges that have made it easier for me to connect with kids and help them feel comfortable with me.

I specialize in working with children, adolescents and families on a variety of issues and concerns. With experience ranging from private practice to schools to developing behavior programs in Beijing.

I am very passionate about supporting young people and their families.

Professional Background

I have significant doctoral research that clearly determines working with children and teenagers is very different from working with adults and takes a very special set of skills. You just cannot expect children and teens to open up about the same concerns the same way as adults do.

My research has established a set of competencies for counseling children and he is presenting his work across the country.

Prior to earning my doctoral degree in counseling, I worked in research on various child developmental issues such as ADHD, autism and other behavioral disorders. I also teach courses on a range of counseling topics as well as attend event educating other professionals and families.

Specialty Areas

My specialty areas include:

  • Helping children learn how to regulate their emotions.
  • Supporting parents in raising emotionally healthy children.
  • Guiding teens during the transition to adolescence and big life changes.
  • Providing strategies to children and adolescents for dealing with anxiety, depression, and social challenges.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) for trauma.

"Our son has been working with Cory for several years, starting when he was 14.  We chose Cory because of his focus on adolescent and teen clients.  Cory also allowed us to be a part of the beginning of each counseling session so he could help facilitate effective communication between us and our son.  We have used Cory, and counseling in general, as a tool to help our son make more positive decisions regarding social media and personal relationships.  Our son continues sessions with Cory because he is still developing and needs support from a mentor, other than his parents, to make the best life decisions possible.  Cory has built a level of trust with our son that we know will have a lifelong positive impact on him."

E.D., Parent
