Meet Jessica McMains
Hello! I’m Jessica McMains, a licensed clinical mental health counselor in Chapel Hill. I live here with my husband, our two school-aged kids, and a grumpy old cat.
I treat women ages 18-45 who have faced trauma, whether from childhood abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. I understand how these experiences can affect daily life and relationships, especially with partners and children. Many of my clients find themselves taking care of everyone else while neglecting their own needs, often struggling with perfectionism and overachievement. My goal is to help you heal from your past so you can fully embrace your roles as a mother, partner, and professional. Together, we’ll build self-awareness and self-compassion, transforming your life from just surviving to truly thriving.
I specialize in maternal mental health and understand how motherhood can bring past struggles to the surface. In a compassionate space, I use talk therapy and techniques like CBT and EMDR to help you address these challenges. Together, we’ll navigate feelings of guilt and inadequacy, empowering you to find balance, healing, and a renewed sense of self-worth.
I’m accepting new clients and would love to connect with you to see if I’m the right therapist for you. In a compassionate, intuitive, and judgment-free space, you can feel understood and supported. If you’re ready to begin your healing journey, reach out to me today. I’m here to help you on your path to growth and well-being.
Located in Chapel Hill, NC for in-person or virtual appointments.
Professional Background
I began my career journey in 2004 as a middle school language arts teacher. After earning an M.Ed. from UNC-Chapel Hill, I transitioned into school counseling, supporting students facing academic and personal challenges. Following the birth of my first child in 2016, I dedicated myself to parenting full-time while volunteering with Triangle Area Parenting Support. These experiences enriched my understanding of family dynamics and child development. Motivated to expand my impact, I obtained licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHA). Today, I focus on collaborative work with individuals, children, and families, drawing on my diverse background to empower clients and facilitate positive change.
