Meet Jessica McMains

Hello! I’m Jessica McMains, a licensed clinical mental health counselor in Chapel Hill. I live here with my husband, our two school-aged kids, and a grumpy old cat.

As an ENFJ and enneagram 1, I thrive on structure and lead with empathy. I’m also a quirky elder millennial and recovering perfectionist who believes that no day is complete without a diet Coke, a Taylor Swift song, and an episode of Bluey.

I bring major big sister energy to my work as a therapist and love nothing more than empowering others to reach their full potential.

Professional Background

I began my career journey in 2004 as a middle school language arts teacher. After earning an M.Ed. from UNC-Chapel Hill, I transitioned into school counseling, supporting students facing academic and personal challenges. Following the birth of my first child in 2016, I dedicated myself to parenting full-time while volunteering with Triangle Area Parenting Support. These experiences enriched my understanding of family dynamics and child development. Motivated to expand my impact, I obtained licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHA). Today, I focus on collaborative work with individuals, children, and families, drawing on my diverse background to empower clients and facilitate positive change.

Areas of Specialty

  • Providing individual counseling to adults, teens, and preteens.
  • Enhancing parent-child interactions and fostering secure attachments within families.
  • With training from Postpartum Support International in perinatal mental health, treating depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum (PPD and PPA).
  • Utilizing evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Counseling, and Motivational Interviewing.
