Meet Emery Hanson

Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA)
Serving Chapel Hill NC

Hi, I’m Emery Hanson, and I graduated from NC State University with a Masters Degree in Social Work in 2024. I also graduated from the University of North Florida in 2020 Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in Psychology.

I believe in creating a nonjudgmental space where I accept clients where they are and provide space for them to express themselves. I am particularly interested in art therapy and play therapy. Both of these modalities can allow clients to express themselves authentically, relax, and enjoy themselves simultaneously. I also have personally witnessed people using art to express themselves emotionally when they struggled to do so verbally. Other modalities that I work with include mindfulness, CBT, and DBT.

My past experiences working as a therapist at elementary schools, at a family shelter, at Head Start, and as a sleepaway camp counselor have given me experience with a variety of clients and situations. I also have worked at Orange County Rape Crisis Center, where I taught “Safe Touch,” a sexual abuse prevention program, to local elementary schools. My experience with children has led me to want to work with them clinically; however, I am also open to working with teenagers and young adults.

Healing can be a very challenging process. I would love to provide support to you or your child by providing a safe space to process emotions or by incorporating art into the therapeutic process.

Available in Chapel Hill, NC for in person or virtual appointments.
