Hello, my name is Kait Oakes, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate serving children and families in Cary. I recently relocated to North Carolina from Michigan and have loved getting to know the community here. My passion for this work has always centered on supporting children and preserving the joy and safety of childhood.
Through my undergraduate experience I saw firsthand how important it is for children and families to have compassionate, supportive resources. This inspired me to return to school to earn my Master’s in Social Work and continue building the skills needed to support children and their caregivers. During my clinical training, I gained valuable experience providing home-based services to children and families. This work strengthened my belief that supporting a child means looking at the whole picture — their environment, relationships, strengths and challenges. I take a holistic approach and collaborate closely with caregivers to help each child and family thrive.
I have specialized experience working with neurodivergent children, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I understand that children often communicate through behavior, play and emotion, and I work to meet them where they are developmentally. My goal is to honor each child’s unique strengths, sensory needs, and communication style while helping them build the skills they need to succeed. I support children and families navigating a variety of concerns including anxiety, emotional regulation, social skills development, executive functioning challenges, self-esteem, school transitions, and adjustment to life changes. My approach is trauma-sensitive and attachment-focused. In our work together, children can learn to better understand their emotions, develop coping skills, strengthen self-esteem, and improve relationships with family and peers.
